AD-18 Candidate Forum – Recording

June 4, 2021

Now that Rob Bonta is taking up the helm as Attorney General, his District 18 seat in the California Assembly is up for a vote. On Thursday, June 3rd at 4:30pm, we hosted a virtual AD-18 Candidate Forum. We learned more about the candidates for the AD-18 seat and in order to cast an informed vote by June 29th! This forum was co-hosted by TechEquity Collaborative, YIMBY Action East Bay, Housing Action Coalition, East Oakland Collective, and East Bay Housing Organizations.

We heard from candidates Mia Bonta (D), Janani Ramachandran (D), Stephen Slauson (R), and Malia Vella (D). Ronak Davé Okoye, Oakland Director of SPUR, moderated this Q&A forum. We asked candidates about their positions and policy ideas for addressing the housing crisis, racial equity, and more in AD-18 and beyond. We took audience questions at the end.

Assembly District 18 encompasses the central East Bay, centered on the cities of Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro. This event was hosted on Zoom.

As a 501 c(3) nonprofit organization, we were required to comply with California and federal campaign laws which require us to invite all candidates in forums such as this. We hope that the information was useful for voters in deciding who they will vote for.
